Treasurer’s Report Thank you again for paying your subscriptions at the beginning of the year. There is a lot expenditure before the start of the season so it helps the cash flow. I spent most of March doing “warm weather training” in Cyprus in preparation for the new season. Unlike the football clubs who do this, mine consisted of laying in the sun reading a book, playing or watching some bowling or strolling along the path which runs between the hotels and the sea at Paphos. I first stayed at the Athena Beach Hotel on a bowling holiday with the Club and with twelve rinks there is plenty of opportunity to play bowls. During the first week there was a Crown Green tournament with allegedly a total of £10,000 in prize money, so it attracted some of the best bowlers from the north. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the game, you only have two woods, the jack has a bias which you can put anywhere on the green, and there must have been half a dozen games going on at one time. It seemed Chaos but it all seemed to work with people moving about all the time. I didn’t see anyone stop because someone was moving behind the jack!! During the last week there was an international tournament between Cyprus, Jersey, Isle of Man and Israel. I didn’t think the standard was very high and overheard someone ask how you were selected for the Isle of Man team. The reply was “If you live there and put your name down, you’re in!” Peter Osland
