The Filter allows you to reduce the number of records returned by entering the name you are interested in.
In all cases the filter will be applied to any names available - Family Name, Surname, or Forename. The filter text ignores the case of the entry.
You can also enter partial a partial name - but beware! Filtering on cha will give everything from Charles to Richard to Chandler or Chase and probably much in between.
You can look for entries 'starting with' by inserting a space before your filter string, or 'ending with' by putting a space after the filter string .
For Surnames, using a filter string of aldred charles or even aldred ch will give a more limited set of results - anyone called Charles Aldred in the first case, whilst the latter would include Charlotte Aldred.
The results depend of course on the records you are looking at, but as an example, looking at the Summary Register and filtering on Aldred Charles can give a view of his years...
