Down Longcross Hill, on the left, the Old Post Office was run for many years by Mr William Gamblen, grand old man of Headley. Besides being Postmaster, he was Parish Clerk, Sexton, Verger and a member of the Choir for more than 60 years. There is a memorial tablet on the wall above his seat in the choir stalls. After he died his daughter, Mrs Carter, carried on the business. Her husband was killed in the first War and her elder son went down in the Royal Oak in the second. After she died, the Post Office was moved to the High Street, and this building became a hairdresser’s in 1962. By the late 1980's it had become a private house with the 'front shop' used as a studio.
Latterly (2013) it has been much re-modelled and extended - but retains the 'bike bars' on the front of the building.
