HEADLEY MAKES PLANS FOR TWINNING WEEKEND.
Interested in meeting new people and experiencing a different culture?
Headley Twinning Association are organising a trip to France in May to celebrate the ‘jumelage’ relationship with their sister town of Corné.
A coach will leave Headley on Thursday 14th May 2026 for a daytime sailing from Portsmouth to Caen; then onward to Corné, a pretty little town about 20 minutes from Angers on the Western Loire.
We will be staying with French families who provide accommodation and food. The group travel back by coach to Headley on Sunday 17th May.
A full program of activities has been arranged. This year on the Friday we plan to visit Saumur, also in the Loire Valley. It has a Chateau and is the home of the French National Riding School. We also plan to visit a vineyard for some wine-tasting. On the Saturday we will be taken out by our French families to absorb a little more French culture.
“These weekends are always extremely rewarding” says Chairman Clive Harrod, and although speaking some French obviously helps, we find communication is generally quite easy. The families who host are always very friendly and hospitable.
The Cost at around £200 per person is very reasonable as it includes both the coach and ferry. We are able to keep costs to an absolute minimum because of our fund-raising social evenings throughout the year and very generous grants from Headley Parish Council and EHDC.
This year will mark our 37th Anniversary and it would be lovely to see as many people as possible be part of the celebrations.

PAST ACTIVITIES
INDOOR KURLING
Our Indoor Kurling evening in February was a great success. Though most people had not played indoor kurling before, they soon developed a degree of accuracy and learned that apart from aiming for the centre of the target there is a lot of strategy involved. The evening was full of fun and light-hearted competition.
BARN DANCE
A Barn Dance was held in March. Squinty McGinty and his band came to play for us. They are a very talented band with Francis McNamara playing the violin and the three other Band members playing a variety of instruments. The caller gave us clear instructions for the dances which made it easy and fun, and they played an occasional instrumental piece just to let us sit and get our breath back. It was an energetic evening and we all had great fun.
